GEC Plc had no immediate comment on widespread reports that it has declared itself a candidate for the acquisition of the French state’s 58% stake in Thomson-CSF SA. However, French conglomerate Groupe Lagardere said it was aware of the bid by GEC and did not learn of it from the press, adding that GEC has always shown interest in Thomson.
