GEC Plessey Telcommunications Ltd is discarding its dual culture legacy in favour of a merged corporate structure to arm it for the single European market of 1992: 300 senior managers are being retrained in the new mode which is expected to filter down through the ranks, according to Rupert Soames, managing director of GEC Plessey Data Systems; the training programme includes instruction in foreign langu-ges – Shouting loudly and clearly in English does not work affirmed Soames; the company is also seeking new suppliers and partners on the continent, where, says Soames, the 64m ECU question is whether nations will allow one of their suppliers to go bankrupt bust in the new competitive market.
