GaAs device market grew 34% to reach $5b in 2010
Worldwide gallium arsenide (GaAs) device market revenue is likely to grow to $6.4b in 2015, according to Strategy Analytics GaAs and Compound Semiconductor Technologies Service Forecast and Outlook.
The report, GaAs Industry Forecast 2010-2015, said the entire GaAs device market grew 34% to reach $5b in 2010 due increase in the handset developments, like smartphones and other multi-mode, multi-band devices.
The report forecasts that 50% of total GaAs device revenue in 2015 will comprise of device shipments into mobile handset applications, with more than 20.8 billion GaAs devices to be shipped into all market applications in 2015.
The increase in the sophistication of handsets to include multiple bands, multiple standards and features like GPS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth is leading to increase in the number of GaAs devices required per handset, the report said.
