Expanding on its mobile phone offerings, internet search giant Google Inc is planning to provide a personalized version of the Google home page to mobile phone users in the US.
The personalized Google homepage will allow mobile phone users access to information they most frequently request. Users can conduct web searches, check Gmail email, and read news headlines, weather forecasts and stock quotes all from one central homepage.
By adding personalized features such as a personalized Google homepage, the search engine titan is attempting to popularize the mobile web services it offers mobile phone users. Google faces competition in the mobile phone information services market from various major players, including Yahoo! and Microsoft.
In an interview with Reuters, Deep Nishar, Google’s product manager for wireless services, described the mobile phone as an extension of people’s personalities and said the company feels it is very important that the information you care about is just one click away.
