The Greek government has agreed to take a series of steps to speed up liberalization of its telecommunications market, according to the European Commission. In a meeting with Competition Commissioner Karel Van Miert, Greek Telecoms Minister Charis Kastanides agreed that his government would take action on satellite communications, cable TV networks, leased lines and the national regulatory authority. The Commission said it welcomed the pledges, but would continue its plan to take legal action if they were not fulfilled.
