Privately-held Grupo Domos SA of Monterrey, Mexico is reported to be close reaching an agreement to invest more than $2,000m to modernise Cuba’s ramshackle telephone system, according to Mexican newspapers, which say that Domos will pay $1,450m for a 49% stake in Cuban Telecommunication Enterprise and will also get a 55-year concession to operate the phone system; it will also be obliged to invest $740m over the next seven years to modernize the system; Domos holds cellular telephone concessions to operate in several of Mexico’s northern states and is also active in property across northern Mexico.
