French publishing giant Hachette, part of Matra-Hachette SA, has launched Multimedia Dictionary, its first interactive, multimedia dictionary published on the Compact Disc-Interactive medium. Representing an investment of almost $2m, the dictionary will be out at the end of this month or early February for about $170. Including image, sound, text and interactivity, the dictionary contains 75,000 entries illustrated by almost 5,000 sound and visual documents. The documents include 3,600 photos, 900 designs and schematics, 200 maps, 27 animations, 30 video sequences and 87 sound illustrations (animal cries, musical extracts).
