Hewlett-Packard Co has now confirmed that it is following Ultimate Corp – which put in $4m – and taking a stake in fault-tolerant Unix manufacturer Sequoia Systems Inc, Marlborough, Massachusetts (CI No 1,331). Hewlett will pay $5.8m for a 10% stake and will market Sequoia’s machines. It will also have the right to offer the Topix Unix on future machines of its own. Sequoia in turn will use Hewlett’s Precision Architec ture RISCs in its next generation. Sequoia did $31m in the year to June against $18m the previous year and plans to go public later this year.
