Hitachi Ltd yesterday denied a newspaper report that it planned to halt one of its production lines for 16M-bit memory chips. It says it will maintain the current production level of 10m 16M parts a month for the next one to two months before deciding whether to reduce it, the firm told Reuter. It added that if conditions in the memory market do not improve, it will use part of its 16M production facilities to make non-memory chips, such as microprocessors.
