Hitachi Ltd has firmed up plans for a US software conversion centre, which is now set to open in Los Angeles next month: the centre will convert Japanese software for use on US computers, and US software for use on Hitachi computers – and is likely to be a key instrument in Hitachi’s planned onslaught on IBM with its own operating software as well as hardware in the US market.
