Home PC users use only 13% of the software on their systems, according to new reports by Media Metrix Inc. While the average PC has 47.6 executable software programs installed, only 6.3 are actually used on average in a month. Business productivity packages lead those few programs that are used regularly. New York-based Media Metrix has two reports: SoftScan, covering software ownership, and SoftUse, covering PC use. The survey covered 10,000 Census-balanced PC-owning households in the US.
