Honeywell Inc is to adapt the Intel Corp Paragon parallel Scalable High Performance Computer for military embedded signal and data processing applications. The system will be a miniaturised, ruggedised supercomputer designed to provide high levels of scalable computing power for a range of military airborne, naval, ground or spaceborne Command, Control, Communications and Intelligence applications, and Honeywell, which is doing the work at its Clearwater, Florida base, reckons the machine will also be suitable for commercial applications such as on-board air traffic control, oil and gas exploration and medical diagnostic imaging. A prototype demonstration is scheduled for late 1994. The multiple 80860XMP RISC-based processor will incorporate high-density multi-chip modules in the smaller version.
