IBM Corp shares were among the most active on the New York Stock Exchange yesterday, rising $1.375 to $56.625 after Dean Witter analyst Jay Stevens raised his fourth quarter earnings estimate to $0.60 a share from $0.45, although he maintains his earnings estimate of $2.50 a share unchanged; he says the personal computer business continues to be very strong and he is detecting a slightly better tone in the mainframe business in the US.
