And very pleased we are to hear it – the company’s holding statement sounded altogether too complacent: apropos the embarrassment over high flying IBMer Christopher Bowers’ involvement with the World Academy of Creative Science front for controversial guru Bhagwan Shree Rajnesh (CI No 1,023), IBM UK Ltd issued a terse statement on Friday saying (in its entirety) The comprehensive investigation is concluded; in order to ensure that Mr Christopher Bowers is free of any suspicion of conflict of interest in future activities carried out on behalf of IBM, he has decided to sever all connections with the Academy; also, he has agreed not to promote the sect; IBM has never supported the Academy or the sect in any way; finally, we have audited all donations, contributions and sponsorships and we are satisfied they are all proper; we consider the matter closed – or, to paraphrase President Nixon, There can be no bagwash with the Bhagwan.
