IBM Corp has acquired IT services company Network Solutions Pvt Ltd for an undisclosed sum.
Bangalore, India-based Network Solutions is privately owned, and employs over 1,000 staff at approximately 30 locations across India. The company provides a range of services including helpdesk support, and network, server, and application management.
Network Solutions’ customers include major financial services providers such as HSBC and Citibank, global IT companies like Accenture, Oracle, and Unisys, and offshore IT services vendors Mphasis BFL Group and 24/7 Customer.
The acquisition comes less than a week after Sam Palmisano, IBM’s CEO, visited the company’s Indian operations. Prior to the purchase, IBM’s Indian headcount was approximately 23,000. In April 2004, IBM acquired India’s third-largest business processing outsourcing company Daksh eServices Pvt Ltd for a reported INR 7bn ($153m).
Earlier this year, an IBM internal report entitled India 2002 to 2005 was leaked to US employee union WashTech/CWA. The document revealed IBM’s plans to increase its Indian headcount to 38,196 by the end of 2005.
