Sun Microsystems Inc has poached IBM Corp’s Java chief Pat Sueltz to be president of its software group, following Alan Baratz’s departure to Warburg Pincus & Co. IBM and Sun are close allies on Java, and Sun president and COO Ed Zander expects them to continue to work closely together. Sueltz will be responsible for Solaris, consumer and embedded software and Java. Sueltz’s boss Al Zollae, general manager of IBM’s network computer division takes over until a replacement is found.
