IBM is teaming with Northern Telecom Inc on a pilot five-month programme to test a means of enhancing the ability of their customers to manage voice communication networks. The pilot will include transferring station message detail recording information from a Northern Telecom PABX or Centrex system to an IBM mainframe, the thinking being that rapid transfer of such records could give customers fast access to calling records, avoiding the wait for data captured on mag tape or in printed reports. The idea is that hotels, universities and hospitals could bill their clients more quickly and accurately. In the pilot, Northern Telecom will download the data from the Meridian Digital Centrex program, which runs on the DMS-100 digital public exchanges, usiing its Dynamic Network Controller configured with its Busi ness Network Management application for collection and distribu tion of the data. It will also implement IBM LU 6.2 Advanced Program-to-Program Communications and Distributed Data Manage ment.
