Another company has drunk from the poisoned chalice of an overwhelming OEM contract from IBM and suffered the near-inevitable hangover and withdrawal symptoms when it is ended: Xebec Corp, Carson City, Nevada, already under fire from Amstrad Plc (CI No 742), saw its OEM hard disk controller contract disappear when IBM phased out the XT: IBM accounted for about 50% of turnover, and as a result, for its most recent – fiscal third – quarter to July 3, Xebec has reported a devastating net loss of $33.9m against a tiny $25,000 profit last time, on sales that crashed 66% to $10.3m.
