IBM has gone to Beyond Words Inc, a tiny company in Greenbrae, in the San Francisco Bay area, for a joint development agreement on future products to be developed with IBM’s Application Systems Division. Formed in 1984, Beyond Words is dedicated to the seamless integration of word processing and desktop publishing, overcoming the biggest drawback of most present desk-top publishing systems that creation and layout have to be quite separate activities. The company claims a head start on the competition and has a long-term contract with Canon Inc for its Expression software.
