IBM Corp has announced the first product to stem from its acquisition of ISS Inc in the form of an appliance in the SiteProtector line which has been updated to manage antivirus software, something previous editions of the box did not do.
The Proventia Management SiteProtector 6 appliance provides a single console from which security administrators can monitor all their ISS network-based intrusion prevention, vulnerability management, anomaly detection, and email security processes. The new system will become available by the end of the month.
The upgrade of the SiteProtector management console has involved a lot of user interface refinements, which has resulted in a claimed 50% reduction in menu options in a system that should lead to a more intuitive policy management process. The box also takes in a new update now feature for applying immediate security policy changes, and some new options for traffic analysis and filtering.
It now includes a vulnerability and incident ticketing system which will help tie the management of vulnerabilities and security incidents into the use of a service desk ticketing system such as Remedy.
