Indian companies are set to increase their market share of the outsourcing IT services industry five-fold over the next few years, according to an independent study.
Business research firm Cris Infac estimates that the Indian IT services industry will have exported $9bn worth of software in the year to March 2004, up 25% on the previous year. Sachin Mathur, head of research at the company, said India’s 2% market share has the potential to grow to 12%.
To continue its high growth rate, the study said Indian companies would have to increase their consulting and specific industry expertise, as well as change to pricing models that focus on customer benefits rather than straight hourly billing.
