Informix Software Inc will be using defect detection technology from Intrinsa Corp in a bid to improve product quality and standards. The database company says the PREfix family of products will enable it to get its goods to market much quicker. Mountain View, California-based Intrinsa launched its first product, PREfix for Unix last October, designed to find coding defects in C language programs. PREfix is the first of the company’s products to be based on its Software Component Simulation technology which is patent-pending. It is said to address the problems associated with bug testing in software code, which in the past has generally been carried out when development is nearly complete. Intrinsa claims its new technology addresses the benefits of software simulation, enabling programmers to automatically model the behavior of source code and use these models to simulate the behavior of software components. The technology will be used primarily in conjunction with the Informix Universal Server via integrated DataBlade modules, and Intrinsa says it will be working closely with Informix, having formed the basis of a long-term relationship. Although Intrinsa received venture funding only at the beginning of 1995, and officially launched itself in October 1996, Informix is not its only big name customer. Last October the company announced Netscape Communications Corp as its first customer. The browswer firm used PREfix to speed up its production process.
