French performance management software vendor InfoVista SA has announced an alliance with EMC Corp with a view to a combined offering of its VistaInsight technology with the storage giant’s Smarts network diagnostics platform for fault management.
By pairing the patented root cause analysis and correlation technology of EMC Smarts with the sophisticated performance data collection and trend analysis of InfoVista, our joint customers will benefit from an integrated fault and performance management value chain, ensuring optimal service delivery across their IT infrastructure, said Bill Nelson, senior VP of the EMC Software division.
The announcement is in line with Hopkinton, Massachusetts-based EMC’s earlier admission of ambitions beyond the storage domain in servers and networks. These were first highlighted by last year’s acquisition of VMWare server virtualization vendor. Then in August at its annual analyst conference in New York, the company promised end-to-end security solutions.
Meanwhile, for Paris-based InfoVista, the deal extends its offering into an area VistaInsight does not presently cover: storage, which senior VP of strategic alliances and channel, Jean-Luc Valente, told Computer Business Review earlier this year would be done through partnership rather than in-house development. EMC has already stated its intention of integrating Smarts into its ControlCenter storage management console.
The InfoVista offering has three modules, delivered on a common platform (VistaFoundation) for operational synergies as well as upsell capabilities: Networks, Servers, and IP Telephony. The company is also developing a module specifically for perimeter security products such as firewalls, VPNs, and IDS/IPS, for launch early next year, an offering that would enable EMC to deliver on the promise of network security management.
