Pixeon is a medical imaging software company
Intel’s global investment and M&A organisation Intel Capital made its foray into the Latin American healthcare IT segment by investing in Pixeon, a medical imaging software company based in Brazil.
This investment will help Pixeon to expand its sales and marketing activities.
Pixeon specialises in Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS) which enable the digital management and processing of medical images.
With the adoption of Pixeon’s PACS, hospitals and clinics can significantly reduce the usage of medical films, amounting to substantial cost savings and better diagnostics. Pixeon offers this technology as a Software as a Service (SaaS), allowing customers pay for the product according to usage.
Pixeon CEO Fernando Peixoto said the main benefits of Pixeon’s products are the reduced conventional medical film costs and improved diagnostic quality, providing doctors with an efficient and more accurate tool to carry out procedures. "The technology allows up to an 80 percent reduction in the need to print on special film, speeding up workflow and the distribution of medical images in a healthcare establishment," added Peixoto.
Intel Capital Latin America Managing Director David Thomas said Pixeon’s technology provides the over 7,500 hospitals and 7,000 diagnostic clinics in Brazil the ability to adopt innovative digital imaging solutions,. "The adoption of advanced image processing technologies will help the healthcare industry to invest more in IT infrastructure, thereby speeding up internal processes and ensuring better quality in healthcare service and diagnostics," added Thomas.
