Intel Corp has announced that its upcoming WiFi Centrino chips would support the latest version of Cisco Compatible Extensions, which would ensure Intel-based enterprise devices would be interoperable with Cisco Systems Inc’s WiFi access point.
Intel is the first vendor to achieve Cisco Compatible Extensions 4.0 certification, with the Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection.
Cisco’s Compatible Extensions program sets criteria so that client devices are designed to be interoperable with a Cisco WLAN infrastructure.
With this certification, future Intel Centrino mobile technology customers can be assured that their devices are designed to be supported, said Jim Johnson, VP of Intel’s wireless networking group.
The Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG network connection with Cisco support would be available in the next version of Intel Centrino, available in early 2006.
