Guilderland, New York-based Intermagnetics General Corp says it has been granted protection by the US Patent Office on a patent that covers a new concept and production process for fabricating superconducting materials: the new process is to fabricate multifilamentary superconductors with substantially higher electric current carrying capacity that single filaments, and has been successfully demonstrated for presently produced Niobium Titanium superconductors, although the company believes it to be applicable to all superconductors, including new high temperature materials.
