Dutch and Chinese partnership will work on a Smart Senior Lifestyle monitoring solution.
Dutch smart home semi-conductor and system company GreenPeak and Chinese ZTE Heatlh have announced a partnership to develop smart home devices and solutions for the elderly.
The project aims to give senior people the chance to live longer at home independently by up to ten years, and at the same time allow care takers and family members to be in constant reach.
The Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte witnessed the event in which the new venture was signed.
Speaking in Shanghai, Mr Rutte mentioned the partnership in his speech as an example of Dutch and Chinese collaboration, to address the care for the world’s growing elderly population, starting in China.
The Chinese government is actively looking for smarter ways of supporting its ageing population as the country and the rest of world face a rapidly ageing population
The two companies will be rolling out the Smart Senior Lifestyle monitoring solution to telecom operators and local governments worldwide.
The system will use sensor communication and Sensara’s cloud based algorithm, which has been used in nursing homes for the past few years. This will enable the solution to be intelligent and self-learning.
Including behaviour pattern recognition capabilities, the Senior Lifestyle System will learn the normal day-to-day activities of people in their home and send alerts to family and care givers when something doesn’t go as normal.
The solution has also been said to protect consumers’ privacy, as there will be no cameras and no need to carry any devices around the home.
Seniors will then be able to privately and securely share lifestyle information with their family and social workers. This will allow people to live longer at home independently for an extra five to ten years and make both end users feel secure.
Mr. He Shiyou, President of ZTE Health and Executive Director of the Board of ZTE Corporation, said: "ZTE Health strives to pursue a long-term cooperation with GreenPeak to provide Smart Home solutions and services that go beyond our customers’ expectations. The Senior Lifestyle application will allow elderly people to stay at home for 5 to 10 years longer, which means huge savings for families as well as for the governments on investments in nursing homes.
"ZTE Health wants to offer its customers and their family the highest possible quality of life and contribute to a harmonious community. By taking advantage of information technology and cloud services, we increase the efficiency of the healthcare industry and support of elderly people to meet the high level and personalised requirements of mass consumers.
"The initial focus of the cooperation with GreenPeak is the Senior Lifestyle application. In the next phase, we will also develop other Smart Home solutions."
Frans Frielink, Vice President of GreenPeak, said: "Nearly 200 million elderly people live in China, of which 50 million are living alone. A Senior Lifestyle System allows children and their elderly parents to privately and securely share lifestyle information, enabling the seniors to feel safe and live longer at home independently. With the support of a leading company like ZTE, we expect the Smart Home revolution to quickly accelerate.
"This solution creates new opportunities for operators and service providers and we believe that the system provided by ZTE Health and supported by GreenPeak Technologies will become a worldwide success."
