The major value-added network service company InterNet Corp has begun the joint development of Japan-US Group IV facsimile transmission technology in conjunction with NetExpress of Virginia: the companies hope to complete testing on various types of equipment and have a commercial product within a year; recent tests were conducted with the assistance of Nippon Telegraph & Telephone Corp offices in New York and San Francisco, and InterNet’s computer centre in Nakano Tokyo; international traffic between Japan and the US will use the Venus-LP packet network from Japan, and the NetExpress network connecting the main cities around the US, at the US end; the tests were conducted in the expectation that facsimile transmission over international value-added networks will also be liberalised soon, and to take advantage of the growing numbers of fax machines to the GIV standard.
