Encryption king RSA Data Security Inc, Redwood City, California has joined forces with Enterprise Integration Technologies Corp, Palo Alto developer of software supporting commercial use of the Internet, to form a new company, Terisa Systems Inc, to market, license and support technologies intended to make secure Internet transactions possible. The new company will offer tool kits and support to developers of Internet applications for the World Wide Web and Mosaic. Initial kits from Terisa will support development of secure clients and servers for the World Wide Web Internet application architecture for providing access to multimedia information distributed across the host of computers on the Internet. Terisa will offer tools for adding facilities for authentication, authorisation, encryption and payment, which will be based on RSA’s public key cryptography and Enterprise Integration’s Secure-HyperText Transfer Protocol, which is an enhanced version of the World Wide Web’s internal communications language. Terisa claims that with a Secure-HTTP-enabled application, a user will be able to affix digital signatures that cannot be repudiated, making possible digital contracts that are legally binding and auditable, and sensitive information such as credit card numbers and bid amounts can be encrypted and securely exchanged. Terisa plans a SecureWeb Viewer Developer’s Toolkit for developers of World Wide Web clients, and SecureWeb Server Developer’s Toolkit for developers of servers and says the commercial security products will be out in the fourth quarter. The company will also be offering technical support, tutorials, training, an on-line information service and custom consulting.
