Kawasaki Steel Co is the latest of Japan’s smokestack companies to go for the greener pastures of high-tech. It will form Kawasaki Steel-Intelligent Systems Inc for intelligent buildings as a 55%-owned venture with Fujitsu Ltd, 16%, Shimuzu Corp 16% and banks the rest. It is also buying 41.7% of software house Computer Science Co, and will end up with 50.1% next year. Kawasaki is also teamed with Ungermann-Bass.
