Great Portland Street, London based DEC software specialist Calidus Systems Ltd has gained a foothold in the US via Westford, Massachusetts-based Cullinet Software Inc’s continuing rationalisation programme. Calidus has signed a servicing agreement with Cullinet for the company’s DMS distribution and logistics software package, which runs on the DEC VAX range. Under the agreement, estimated to be worth $3m a year, Calidus will provide services in North America to all Cullinet customers using the DMS package, including Colgate-Palmolive, General Electric Co, Xerox Corp and Westinghouse Electric Corp. The British company will take over the running of Cullinet’s servicing company in Lexington, Massachusetts which will now be renamed Calidus Systems Inc. The spin-off effectively doubles the size of the company’s workforce to 75 and gives it an edge in the lucrative US market, according to chairman, Brindley Reynaud. The deal is a significant coup because Calidus was set up only in February 1985 and has concentrated on distributing DEC-based software packages, achieving turnover for the most recent fiscal year of UKP2.2m.
