Lotus Development Corp shocked the market late Friday by announcing that the crucial release 3 of 1-2-3 – originally promised for June this year, will not now be ready to ship until the second quarter of next year. The company had been hoping to ship the thing this December. With Microsoft’s 2.1 release of Excel due out this week, with enhanced importing of 1-2-3 spreadsheets, the problem couldn’t have come at a worse time for Lotus, and by 1pm Friday, the stock was off $3.125 at $16.375 against a rising market.
