Malaysia has given approval to operate the country’s third mobile phone network to a consortium that includes Telekom Malaysia Bhd, Edaran Otomobil Nasional Bhd and Sapura Holdings Bhd: Sapura Holdings is the parent of listed Sapura Telecommunications Bhd and a fourth party in the consortium is state-owned investment agency PermodalanNasional Bhd; Edaran, which distributes the national car, and Telekom said the consortium will soon make a formal application for a licence to operate the mobile phone system; the current two cellular nets are run by Telekom and Celcom Sdn Bhd.
