Offers up to 48 ports of 10GbE on a single chip
Marvell, a manufacturer of integrated silicon offerings, has announced the mass production of its Prestera CX family of packet processors for broadband switching and datacentres.
The company claims that Prestera CX family is the first commercially available product to offer up to 48 ports of 10 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) on a single chip, and the first with multiple ports of 40GbE with line rate throughput.
According to Marvell, the packet processors provide 480Gbps duplex throughput for carrier ethernet, including Mac-in-Mac, Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS), Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) Translation and IP Routing and can support up to 128K subscribers with a single device.
In addition, the reduced XAUI (RXAUI) interface enables doubling of the switching capacity for current broadband access platforms while maintaining compatibility for legacy line cards, enabling in-field upgrade of access platforms as networks migrate to GPON and 10G EPON.
The Prestera CX family also offers 40GbE ports, priority flow control and fibre channel over ethernet capabilities including fibre channel awareness and fibre channel forwarding for converged enhanced ethernet networks, the company said.
