State-owned Mauritius Telecom has joined the project to lay a submarine optic fiber cable across the Indian Ocean to link Southern Africa and South East Asia via Mauritius by the year 2000. The project will study the feasibility of the submarine cable project, expected to boost the use of Internet, telemedicine and video conferencing. At the end of the year, the parties are due to enter into a construction and maintenance agreement.
