Memorex in Ireland has bought out Specialist Machine Services Ltd, claimed to be the country’s leading IBM computer maintenance company, as it announced the near-completion of Ireland’s first major disaster recovery centre – the Memorex Business Protection Centre. The centre will be a fully operational, high security computer centre which will act as a back-up system in event of disaster such as flood or fire. Memorex has invested between UKP4m and UKP5m in order to provide what it call the widest range of services possible to Ireland’s cor-porate users. It believes customers need a company to pick, provide, finance and maintain a system whilst offering comprehensive protection. It reckons it is now in a position to provide that kind of service. The expansion is part of plans to diversify after the management’s purchase of Memorex from the former Burroughs Corp. Memorex says the workforce has already doubled to 50 inaddition to the 150 employees at Memorex International’s Clondalkin flexible disk manufacturing plant.
