Memorex International Ltd will next month step up its nine-month-old effort in the IBM System/38 and 36 peripherals market with a major launch. The company is poised to introduce a 9335-compatible disk drive and a 6157-compatible tape drive. The former, like its IBM counterpart, is expected to work on both the System 38 and the recently delivered 9370. The tape drive is for the System 36. Memorex announced its move into the System 36 and 38 field last November just weeks after IBM called the long-term future of both machines into question with the launch of the 9370. Up until now its efforts have concentrated on 5250-compatible printers.
