The number of UK customers with Mercury one-2-one Ltd mobile phones is expected to rise to 100,000 by the end of June from 75,000 at the end of May, US West Inc’s executive vice-president said; Mercury one-2-one will expand its network from Greater London to seven more British cities by the end of 1994; they include Birmingham and Manchester; One-2-one isn’t taking many customers from British Telecommunications Plc, he said; 70% of one-2-one calls are new traffic; he also said US West’s cable venture with Telecommunications Inc in the UK is growing at about 40% a year; he said the number of cable subscribers is seen rising to 300,000 by the end of June from 250,000 at the end of 1993, while cable telephone subscribers are seen climbing to 200,000 from 140,000 over the same period; the company estimates it is possible to take some 15% to 20% of the market from monopoly companies on the first pass at the market.
