With a mission to combat international software piracy, to promote strong intellectual property protection, and to reduce international trade barriers, the Business Software Association came into being this week. The six founder members are Aldus Corp, Seattle; Ashton-Tate Corp, Torrance, California; Autodesk Inc, Sausalito, California; Lotus Development Corp of Cambridge, Massachusetts; Microsoft Corp, Redmond, Washington; WordPerfect Corp, Orem, Utah. The Association will battle to promote free and open world trade in legitimate business software, and aims to work with governments and law enforcement agencies, institute private lawsuits, seek co-operation with US and foreign trade associations, and initiate educational programmes.
