MiniScribe Corp, Longmont, Colorado knows all about IBM’s OEM contracts too: last year, it was awarded a second source contract for 20Mb 3.5 Winchesters for the Personal System/2 Model 30 – IBM’s own Fujisawa plant in Japan is the primary source – but so far there have been no orders under the contract and observers are going so far as to say that IBM and MiniScribe no longer have a deal, according to Computer Systems News; one version has it that the robots at the Singapore plant that was staffed up for the IBM contract, have now been reprogrammed to manufacture 20Mb Winchesters for Apple Computer Inc; no big deal – matter of hours to reprogram robots, says MiniScribe.
