Mirapoint Inc has entered the email archiving space with its own appliance, as an alternative to its previous integration partnership with Veritas, now owned by Symantec Corp, which Mirapoint competes with in the email security space.
The new ComplianceVault device can be deployed next to any mail server, or alongside Mirapoint’s own RazorGate email security gateway, according to the company’s director of corporate marketing Craig Carpenter.
The company is targeting customers that want the ability to quickly retrieve emails for compliance or legal discovery purposes. The appliances have built-in features for searching by username, date range and keywords, for easy retrieval.
The ComplianceVaults are built on the same Unix-based operating system as Mirapoint’s other products. They automatically store and index emails after the spam and virus filter is done with them.
Carpenter said that the model with 1TB of storage is about enough to archive 10 months of email for a 1,000-user enterprise or department. The company is also planning a machine with 8TB of storage.
