Make sure you can relax this summer.
Holidays usually end up with something being lost or broken as a matter of course. Dropping a smartphone in the water would be a perfect way to ruin your pool-side relaxation. But with a range of water-proof devices on the market, there’s no need to worry. CBR rounds up the best water-proof smartphones.
1. Sony Xperia Z3
Alongside its resistance to H2O, Sony‘s handset boasts several other features that might mark it out as a good holiday phone; in particular, it carries a 20.7 MP primary camera and a 2.2 MP front-facing camera. Its 3GB of RAM and SD memory card boost up to 128 GB will also give it plenty of space to store your pictures.
It also claims to boast shatter-proof glass, and it is light and portable at 5.2 inches and 152g. The Z3 runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 with a Quad-core 2.5 GHz Krait 400 CPU.
2. Samsung Galaxy S5
Just because the world instantly fell in love with the S6 doesn’t mean the venerable older generation of the Galaxy series isn’t still alive and kicking, and the S5’s water-resistance is gone from the S6. In fact, the disillusionment with the S6’s lack of water-proofing has even led Samsung to push out the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active.
Despite being upstaged by the S6, the S5 is still a very high-quality smartphone, with a powerful processor, a good 16 MP primary camera and 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution.
3. HTC Desire Eye
The HTC Desire Eye is HTC’s first water-proof device. Depending on the kind of holiday you’re going on (presumably in this case not somewhere with any particularly interesting scenery) its most notable feature might be its 13 MP selfie camera.
The Desire Eye is a fairly cheap option, available only on the Three network in the UK. It runs Android 4.4, with a 5.2 inch 1080p Full HD display, and can boost its storage up to 128 GB.
4. Digoor DG2 Plus
If you want something seriously durable, perhaps for the intrepid adventuring type of holiday where you might sustain some sort of physical damage, this rugged smartphone from Digoor might be worth a look. It runs with Android 4.4.2 with a 1.3 GHz quad-core processor. The device has 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal storage that can be boosted up to 32 GB.
The DG2 Plus carries an 8 MP camera with 2 MP front-facing camera. It also carries a GPS receiver, accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer and pressure sensor.
5. Fieldbook Secure
The Fieldbook Secure isn’t necessarily going to win any design awards, but you’re certainly not going to spend your holiday anxiously checking to make sure it’s not been damaged. As well as being water and dust-proof , the device can withstand a fall from a metre height.
The device runs an octa-core processor with 1.7 GHz and an Android 5.0 operating system. It has a 13 MP camera and a 6-inch with 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution. It is not just physically secure, boasting a state-of-the-art encryption solution.
