Phones and tablets are hosting evermore sensitive data, so here are some of the best apps to protect your Android device.
Mobile security is becoming increasingly important, as phones and tablets host evermore sensitive data.
Apple’s sandbox environment means that extra security apps are not really produced for iOS. There is, however, a plethora of options on the rival Android platform.
CBR brings your some of the best.
1. Cheetah Mobile Clean Master
AV Test awarded this free app "Best Android Security Product" in 2014. Tests also showed it found 100 per cent of malware during a four week test period in July 2015, and 99.9 per cent of Malware in real time.
Clean Master has variety of add-ons, in addition to providing security, such as battery saving.
This free Android app comes with a variety of essential security features. Users can lock, and then wipe, a lost or stolen phone, lock specific apps, and filter calls and text messages.
Avast has some other useful features, such as automatically correcting a mistyped URL, to redirect you back to the safe website.
3. Mobile Security Bitdefender
Bitdefender’s offering scans for viruses on your Android device, and generates privacy reports to see how much your apps are sharing about you.
It also has an App Lock feature, which requires a pin be entered to access certain apps. This app is highly rated, and was awarded six out of six by AV Test. After a two week free trial Mobile Security costs either £9.95 for a year, or £0.99p a month.
4. AhnLab V3 Mobile Security
As well as many of the features listed in the above apps, AhnLab’s offering will encrypt data on an SD card to protect it, providing an extra layer of defence for your sensitive pictures and documents stored there.
As well as data, Ahnlab will also protect your bank balance by alerting users when data usage goes over a user defined limit.
Another app rated very highly by AV -Test, who gave Avira a usability rating of 5.5 out of 6. It is a bit low on features, but has standard anti-theft tools, and protects against malicious websites and phishing.
It also has a call blocking feature, app locking and identity safeguarding capabilities. Avira offers both paid and free options.
