Motorola Inc is still exploiting its mature 68000 microprocessor architecture to create ingenious new chips, and the company’s latest offering is the 68356, which combines the 68000 microprocessor core and communications processor that make up the 16-bit 68302 with the DS56002 24-bit signal processor on a single chip. It is pitching the part at designers of credit card-size high-speed modems for personal computers, wireless communication devices, cellular telephone equipment and vehicle guidance systems. It will be out in fourth quarter at $65 a time for 10,000-up.
