Looks as if the emerging agreement for Motorola Inc to make chips for use in electronic systems for cars is the result of the Ministry of International Trade & Industry getting heavy with the Japanese motor industry: Nissan Motor Co announced that it is replacing the 8-bit Hitachi microcontrollers used in the ignition system of the Leopard car with 16-bit parts from Intel Corp; and 26 auto parts makers met MITI on Tuesday, and reportedly jointly agreed to import more US semiconductors to duck more trade friction.
