Miffed that IBM pinched its time-honoured designation AS to use as part of the AS/400 name, National Semiconductor Corp’s National Advanced Systems unit is taking no chances this time, and is tagging the designation for its new machines (TM) for Trade Mark in all its literature: unfortunately, yesterday’s Wall Street Journal took it a little too much at its word, and as far as the Journal is concerned, the new NAS line of IBMulators launched earlier this week (CI No 1,013) is called the AS/EXTM.
