Scotland is one of the beneficiaries of NEC Corp’s aggressive production schedule for 1M-bit memory chips, which sees the company making 12m 1Ms a month by 1990, equalling its output of 256Ks at peak: to meet its goal, NEC plans to add new lines in Kansai and Yamagata, production at Kyushu and Yamaguchi will rise to 5m from 3m a month, and it will also expand 1M production at NEC Semiconductor UK, currently doing 500,000 a month; NEC Singapore starts up early in 1989.
