NEC America Inc, which manufactures communications equipment in Oregon, is to expand its plant there three-fold to 100,000 square feet as part of a plan to manufacture locally 50% of all goods it sells in the US, up from around 25% now. Products to be made at the expanded plant include digital multiplexers, modems, cellular telephones, and facsimile machiness. Construction work is duw to start next April, with occupation of the extension planned for by April 1989. Total investment at the plant will rise to $7,500m, and annual production capacity will be a lofty $1,655m.
