Microsoft Corp is aiming to release to manufacturing Windows NT 4.0 on July 31, Reuter was told.
Compaq Computer Corp introduced the Compaq V70, a 17 – 15.67 viewable – monitor: it has 0.28 dot pitch, 1,024 by 768 pixel resolution, with an 85Hz refresh rate, and is $730.
Windows95 was intended to fix the Windows desktop metaphor through to the other side of the millennium, but Microsoft Corp didn’t count on the World Wide Web jumping in and changing all the rules. So the Nashville Windows95 upgrade, which integrates the Explorer browser with the operating system and will be downloadable free later this summer, first shown last December and shown again privately last week, will enable users to choose between two views of their files, one as traditional files, the other as Web pages, and able to have all the attributes of Web pages (CI No 2,927). It also means users will be able to treat locally and remotely stored information in a similar way, with remote pages automatically dialed when they’re invoked.
NCR Corp’s Internet plans are still not cooked. It was intending to hand down a full Web and Internet strategy in May or June but its people say it’s still in the oven.

It remains our view that the outcome of the Internet feeding frenzy will be that while what is now being built will be of enduring value for many millions of people, any real killing to be made has already been made by people that got into companies like Netscape Communications Corp and Yahoo! Inc early and have long since bailed out. As for the companies themselves, a handful of solid majors will emerge, but most will end up being acquired at a fraction of their current valuation, and while t here will be useful profits to be made, there will be no pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. However, it’s not too late to take profits and bail out. As Bill Gates says in his book The Road Ahead, A few will pay off, but when the frenzy is behin d us, we will look back at the wreckage of failed ventures and wonder ‘Who funded those companies? What was on their minds? Was that just mania at work?’ .
UK newspaper, The Daily Mail warns that electronic car key devices have batteries which are good for only about three years, and if you don’t quickly replace them when they run out, the memory chip may lose its state and the whole system may need reprogramming before you are able to use your car again.
