Vebacom Service GmbH will deal with marketing, sales and customer services, along with product and service development, while Vebacom Netz G mbH will be in charge of establishing a voice and data network.
The European Investment Bank is lending $130m to Telia AB, Stockholm for the digitization and upgrading of its fixed telecommunications network in Sweden. The project will in particular focus on regional development in the backward north and west of the country.
The UK gave the go-ahead for more in depth trials of a new computer system providing doctors with clinical advice and prescription options from software companies Vamp Health, a unit of Reuters Holdings Plc, AAH Meditel Ltd, Emis Ltd, Genisyst Ltd a nd Medical Care Systems Ltd: health minister Gerald Malone said further trials would be carried out between January and March 1997 on the Prodigy Prescribing Rationally with Decision-support in General Practice Study system. The trials would build on the experience of 137 General Practitioner practices in England and five clinical computing companies testing the prototype system in the day-to day treatment of patients; a decision on whether to proceed with Prodigy is due after a final evaluati on in fall 1997.
The UK Department of Trade & Industry has introduced new telephone privacy conditions requiring that parties to a conversation are informed of any recording, silent monitoring or intrusion into the conversation. It also abolished the designated maintainer regime that requires operators of call routing equipment to have a maintenance contract from an Office of Telecommunications-approved supplier.
